i'm still going to get it. 2 8's are good scores not that i care what they think. although it's still good to have a sense of what to expect.

They seem to have judged the game quite fairly (if not a bit mixed), and I didn't really expect the game to get much of a high score anyway. However, since the story is constantly described as perplexed and philosophical like Xenogears, then this game is as good as mine.

So, is this game like a prequel? Regardless, I'd get it to add to my collection of RPGs I've played.

what does everyone know about this game?

here's what i have learned so far..

1) it's a prequel to Xenogears, it's one of 6 games..or was it 4

2) as far as gameplay..well there's NO music in the dungeons and other areas...it going to be odd at first but i think i'll get use to it after a few hours.

What do you mean by no music? I'm pretty sure you probably mean no music in those places at all.

There's no dungeon music from what i've heard..just really good soundfx makes it feel more realistic. Some areas of the dungeon do have music though like when a major battle occurs.

No music...that sounds cool

Yes 6 Chapters...Xenogears was 5 I believe

This story is going to be massive...over 40% of the game is cut scenes so a good portion of it will be like watching a movie...which doesn't bother me because when you got a good story, it makes it all worth while.

Seeing as it got a low score, I will just rent this one.

Sword 4 Hire
Feb 2nd, 2003, 10:37 PM
And where did this low score come from...I'd like to take a look at it...

Yes its gotten mixed reviews but I'm keeping much faith in this game

does this mean a xenogears remake if that was part 5 .... that would be crazy..Squaresoft owns the rights to that game don't they..? How would Namco be able to publish the 5th chapter...

Are they going to skip 5 and go straight to 6 ?.. i seriously hope not, that would be very lame if they did that..

I was wondering the same thing not too long ago...because when 4 is finished which won't be for about a decade, the generation of teens then probably wouldn't have played xenogears seeing as its quite rare now...so who knows...if they did remake it...dear lord...

game informer gave it a 9.75, and a 9.5 for a second opinion.

there's 3 reasons why i'll be passing this one by..for the time being

1) I've learned that it's not directly related to xenogears.
2) i can't be bothered with another episodic series. I've already made a commetment to the new tomb raider games coming out.
3) Tenchu 3

Xenosaga looks so cool. But it looks like one of those games where you really gotta pay attention. Im not that good at paying attention. I'll rent it and see if I like it.

I'll pass this up for right now. There is only one reason:

I don't have enough money what with books and tuition, and the last $50.00 I had are going to Zelda.

Minigames: There is a minigame where you use a drill to destroy objects. It reminds me of those games in Denny's where you try to position the hook over the object, and grab it. Sometimes when you destroy objects, they contain valuable character accessories and prizes. There is a one or two player mech combat game, where you and a friend can fight with the available A.G.W.S., or you can play against the CPU. There is a casino minigame where you can play a light version of five card poker. If you get any pair or a winning hand, you can play double or nothing. You can also gamble on slots, pretty much like any current Vegas slot. The coins you win can be exchanged for game artwork, consumable items and some of the better character accessories in the game. There's also Xenocard, where you can play a game resembling Magic the Gathering or the card games in other RPGs. You purchase card packs in any shop, and unwrap the cards just like in real life! Some of the rare cards are items hidden in the stages. There are also several short side quests in the game, which revolve around speaking to a person and then going to find a certain item, and giving it to the person. There's also a short minigame where you try to beat a Bunnie rabbit back into his house, in order to gain a valuable prize. There are special doors throughout the game that can only be unlocked by finding decoder keys hidden throughout the stages. There is also a certain element of side quests in the emails Shion receives; If you reply in a certain manner you'll get bonus sub-weapons, items and tons of money.

i rememer the little mech battle mode in xenogears. it was pretty fun. Hopefully they improved the controls though and added bigger and more arenas.

I now know more about this series than I ever did before. Now I know why it is titled the way it is.

People who miss out on this game might miss getting the chance to play a series that might rival Final Fantasy in my opinion. Having played Xenogears and understanding the story somewhat got me hooked. And about the questions about the remake, I believe Monolith should be able to do it b/c after April 1 Square will no longer be Suare but SquareEnix. Therefore Xenogears shouldn't be under the lisense of Square anymore.

interesting although, i'm pretty sure squaresoft is taking all rights with them when they merge(it wouldn't make any sense if they didn't). If that were the case however, both final fantasy and the chrono series would also be dropped from the squaresoft license.

My friend said he's getting annoyed with "watching" Xenogears. I was watching him play and I actually fell asleep. I'm pretty sure the game is intriguing, especially since I'm a hardcore Xenogears fan, but they made TOO many cutscenes.

Infernal Mass
Mar 7th, 2003, 02:40 AM
i'm not a big fan of cutscenes, although in my view they are alot better than Xenogears text scrolling. Before i bought the game i wanted to make sure i wasn't jumping into another "Bouncer" type game. (not that that game is bad)One interactive movie is enough for my collection.

Xenosaga's story is well told thru the cutscenes..but there is still text to read thru from time to time during not so major events. The interaction between characters is pretty convincing too..pretty good acting for a video game.(i recognize alot of the voices from other titles)

Alot of people probably don't like the lack of music in the game either, they need that intense action packed theme playing while walking thru the dungeons and what not.. i think it adds of depth to the enviorments of the game. Something cool about actual hearing what it would sound like walking thru the diffrent areas of the game. Although i still think they should've added some music to the Drill minigame..

Xenosaga was a great game. I beat it a few weeks ago, and I'm happy I did. Mind you, it's not a game that you can play for 15 minutes before you go to work; have to make sure you have a good hour at least if you intend to play. And with it's large amount of religous and philosophical influence, it's not a game for everybody - but I'm sure most people will be glad they got it.

Yeah, as I understand it, it's as full as Xenogears was (I never played it). Except for the obvious stuff, there's also some other hints and instances that my friends and I managed to catch.

All in all, it's a tight game.
