I have just had a PS2 given to me by a friend as it is broken, but it appears that only the CD Tray is broken if I could get inside and have a look at it I reckon I could repair it but...

small problem. how do you get inside it without breaking the cover? is there a special place to lever with your screwdriver or what. no screws seem to be attached but it is very reluctant to come open.

any help much appreciated

I'd say slap your friend and send it some where to get it fixed or just buy your own

It's easy to open a Ps2.

Put it in the vertical position and remove (you could use a little screwdriver as a lever for this, but it's not needed) the small rubber screw covers.

I've also found this guide -> http://www.gamegizmo.com/index.php?sID=5&dID=22

But remember that opening a Ps2 could make your warranty void!

Thanks for the advice Harry. I opened it up, found the problem and fixed it.

I now have a fully functional PS2! Without paying anything for repair.
